What Goes Into Making a Resin Art Piece — A Peek Behind the Craft
From mixing pigments to pouring layers and the long wait for curing — discover the meticulous process behind every Handinest creation.
From mixing pigments to pouring layers and the long wait for curing — every Handinest creation goes through a meticulous, patient process. Here's a look behind the craft.
Step 1: Design Conversation
Every piece begins with a conversation. A customer shares their name, their preferred colours, or a photo they want preserved. Kajal sketches a concept and shares it before any resin is mixed.
Step 2: Measuring and Mixing
Epoxy resin is a two-part system — resin and hardener — that must be measured precisely. Too much hardener and the piece cures too fast with bubbles trapped inside. Too little and it never fully sets. Getting the ratio exactly right is the first skill any resin artist must master.
Step 3: Adding Pigments
This is where the artistry begins. Pigments are added drop by drop, swirled with a stir stick or heat gun to create marble veins, ocean-wave effects, or geode-style colour breaks. No two pours ever turn out identical.
Step 4: The Pour
The mixed resin is poured into a mould or onto a prepared surface. This step requires speed and precision — resin begins setting within minutes, so every swirl and embellishment must be placed before it's too late.
Step 5: The Cure
This is the hardest part for most people to believe: a piece needs 24 to 72 hours to fully cure, depending on size and thickness. During this time, the piece must sit completely undisturbed, free of dust, in a stable temperature.
Step 6: Sanding and Finishing
Once cured, the piece is sanded to remove any imperfections, then polished to a high-gloss shine. Edges are cleaned, and any final embellishments — gold leaf, dried flowers — are sealed in place.
Why This Process Matters
Understanding the work behind each piece is part of why handmade resin art feels different from anything mass-produced. Every plate, frame, or clock that leaves our Delhi studio represents hours of careful, hands-on craft.
